At least that was the image the Western Press fashioned for him. The truth was, as it usually is, far more complicated. Well written, exciting, edge of your seat stuff. I knew quite a bit about Mike through his own works, but I learned a whole lot more after reading this biography. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from David Mansell -- Interesting Cold war history of Africa. : This is an incredible story of a flawed man who nevertheless achieved amazing military adventures as a mercenary leader and explorer during the cold war. It throws light on the CIA support for mercenaries in the Congo but perhaps his greatest successes are the rescues of missionaries and others. Unfortunately the book is not that well written and is a bit of a chore. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 16, 2019 )
